Dick
Idol
Master Sculptor

Dick
Idol is one of America's best-known authentic outdoorsman and
wildlife artists. Idol has created more than 30 bronze
editions, published lithograph prints and completed two of the
largest bronze mammal monuments in the world. As a renowned
hunter, lecturer, author, and artist, no one knows the outdoors like
Dick Idol.
Mr.
Idol has gained a solid reputation in the art world as well as the
sporting community as an artist with the ability to capture the true
personality and soul of his wildlife subjects. His sculptures and
paintings exhibit a unique old world style that has become his
trademark.
Mr.
Idol’s focus is on creating “outdoor” bronze monuments (some over 30 feet
tall.) He has created and installed a three-times life-size monument for a
Cabela's store in Owatonna, MN and a four-times life-size monument for The
American National Fish and Wildlife Museum in Springfield, MO.
Idol's
most recent commission is for the North Carolina State University (NCSU)
Wolfpack Club, a non-profit organization that provides scholarships for NCSU
student-athletes. The almost 30-feet tall bronze monument, including six wolves
on a mountain with dramatic water, lighting, and audio effects, is part of the
university's capital contribution campaign that is raising funds for an
approximately $55 million renovation to Carter-Finley Stadium, home of the
Wolfpack football team.
Although monument bronzes are his specialty,
Mr. Idol also offers a full line of standard-sized bronzes, bronze
bas-relief, cold cast sculptures, and flat art paintings sold as
limited editions. He is also available for
commissions.

Artistic
Vision Statement
I
have been fortunate over the last several years to have designed and created
some of the largest (if not the largest) mammal monuments ever created by
traditional lost wax casting methods. I believe that there are three key
characteristics to my approach to all monumental sculpture projects that
differentiate us from other artists:
1)
Artistic Quality: Key elements include effective consideration of accurate
and believable gestures, correct anatomy and proportions, and dynamic
designs intended to be more than mere "representations of nature."
2)
Interactive Bronze Exhibition Concept: Regardless of any independent
sculpture size or dynamic design, I believe it can be made even
"more" spectacular through the effective and tasteful use of other
stimulus such as water effects, motion lighting, music ambient sounds and/or
other effects which make sculpture exhibition more exciting and spectacular
to the viewer, all at a low additional cost relative to the sculpture cost.
3) Team
Approach: Successful execution (on time and on budget) requires a fully
staffed studio to handle creative efforts, a corporate headquarters to
handle administration and marketing, a sales agent, Wisse, Hollmann &
Company, to handle project marketing, acquisition, and fund-raising
programs, and strong foundry relationships.
I hope you
enjoy my work!
Thanks for
your interest,
Dick Idol

This
magnificent sculpture represents two of the biggest white-tailed deer ever
recorded featured in a dramatic, deep descending "S"
compositional design. The lead buck's antlers are a replica of sheds
found in central Nebraska in 1959 and measure 218 2/8 net typical
points. The rear buck's antlers are reproductions of the No. 1 South
Dakota non-typical whitetail taken in 1949. Measuring an amazing 256
1/8 inches, they exemplify the variety and unique characteristics found
among whitetails.

Perhaps
the largest single mammal ever created in the U.S. utilizing the

character in the world, this is a buck of which legends are born. |

creating a "dancing of light" movement across the sculptures
have been combined to create one of our era's most dramatic wildlife
monuments.

Few
dramas in the wild play out nature's rituals as dramatically as two
dominant bucks fighting for breeding supremacy.
It is an event without compassion or remorse that often results in
death or severe injury.
It is evolution's "survival of the fittest" in its rawest
form.
Here,
Dick portrays this phenomenon in an ascending spiral composition
suggesting the battle is nearly over.
The rear buck will pass on his dominant genes thus ensuring the
perpetuation of a healthy herd.

Limited Edition of 100

The
flowing "S-shaped" composition represents a saga familiar to
most who personally know big bucks.
Reclusive giants often lay up in out-of-the-way lairs seldom
visited by hunters.
Sawtooth Ridge is one such place and these two bachelors have been
rousted from their sanctuary.
As they descend down the steep grade the leading older non-typical
exhibits a calm and poised disposition reflecting his years of successful
escape tactics.
The younger and less experienced buck blindly follows the veteran
but his expression clearly shows his fear and lack of confidence.
Soon, however, he to will be a veteran.

"Dancing
Whitetails" is a series of eight two-times life-size whitetail deer
sculptures that were created for a major petroleum corporation's
headquarters in Houston, TX. The dramatic pieces will stand over 15 feet
tall and will be situated in moving water within four hundred feet of
man-made streams. Underwater lighting will create a "dancing of
light" movement across the sculptures, thus the title "Dancing
Whitetails".
Complete
with water dripping from lifted hooves and jet sprays of water suggesting
the splashes of running deer, "Dancing Whitetails" represents
one of our era’s most dramatic wildlife monuments. The series consists
of three groupings entitled "Monarch's Pursuit", "Monarch's
Challenge", and "Monarch's Touch" with each piece
characterizing a different scene in the mating of whitetails.
Bronze, one quarter
life-sized versions of the original monuments are now available in limited
editions to be purchased as single pieces or as groupings.
